What four things from John 17:1-5 are you to pray for each day this week? John 17:6-19 6 “I have manifested Your name to the men whom You have given Me out of the world. They were Yours, You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word. 7 Now they have known that all things which You have given Me are from You. 8 For I have given to them the words which You have given Me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came forth from You; and they have believed that You sent Me. 9 “I pray for them. I do not pray for the world but for those whom You have given Me, for they are Yours. 10 And all Mine are Yours, and Yours are Mine, and I am glorified in them. 11 Now I am no longer in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father, keep through Your name those whom You have given Me, that they may be one as We are. 12 While I was with them in the world, I kept them in Your name. Those whom You gave Me I have kept; and none of them is lost except the son of perdition, that the Scripture might be fulfilled. 13 But now I come to You, and these things I speak in the world, that they may have My joy fulfilled in themselves. 14 I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 15 I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one. 16 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 17 Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth. 18 As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. 19 And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by the truth. 5. Please write it down and email it to me at theway.dwilson@gmail.com. 4. Read John 17. In verses 1-5, who does Jesus pray for? How often do you pray for yourself? Do you find it difficult to pray for yourself? Why? What do you typically pray for yourself? What did Jesus pray for regarding Himself? 5. Who does Jesus pray for after He prayed for Himself? Write a prayer for those you are discipling. Pray it over them. (list those whom you disciple) 6. List what Jesus prayed for His disciples. 7. So today we learned that Jesus prayed for himself and his disciples. We will learn more tomorrow. For the rest of the day I want you to think about those around you who need your prayers. Think about their specific needs. Think about what you have already done for them and ask Jesus to multiply your efforts. The last thing I want you to do today is write a prayer for Keith Ingram. All of you have been touched by his smile and joy as he greets you all as you enter the church. Today my friend is in a major battle with encephalitis caused by his bout with the corona virus. He is having muscle tremors that majorly affect him. Doctors have said it will go away, could be days, weeks or possibility months. I just believe that if we will collectively cry out to God He will heal Keith and the tremors will disappear quickly. Will you please lift up Keith today. Also pray for Susan and the entire family. May love abound in your heart and your prayers reflect such love. Tuesday
August 11, 2020 Reading Plan Daniel 10-12 Psalm 58 1. Write Hebrews 12:1 three times. 2. Read Matthew 6. 3. Write down your take-a-ways from Sunday’s message. 4. Read Matthew 14:23. Do you have a place you go, to get alone with God? Describe it. 5. Read Mark 1:35, Luke 5:16, 9:18. What do you see in all three verses? 6. Read the referenced verses. Are you a praying man or woman? Are you serious about your prayer life? What are you holding back from the Lord Jesus Christ regarding your prayer time? He is shown to pray: alone (Mt 14:23)(Mk 1:35)(Lk 9:18)(Lk 22:39-41), in public (Jn 11:41-42)(Jn 12:27-30), before meals (Mt 26:26)(Mk 8:6)(Lk 24:30)(Jn 6:11), before important decisions (Lk 6:12-13), before healing (Mk 7:34-35), after healing (Lk 5:16), to do the Father's will (Mt 26:36-44), among other things. He also taught on the importance of prayer (Mt 21:22)(Mk 11:24-26)(Mt 7:7-11)(Lk 11:9-13) (Jn 14:13-14)(Jn 15:7,16)(Jn 16:23-24)(Mt 5:44)(Lk 6:27-28)(Mt 6:5-15: including the Lord's Prayer)(Lk 11:2-4)(Mt 18:19-20). 7. If you take all of the places that show Jesus praying, you will have a PERFECT outline of how to pray so now let us read John 17. Jesus Prays for Himself 17 Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You, 2 as You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as You have given Him. 3 And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. 4 I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do. 5 And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was. Jesus Prays for His Disciples 6 “I have manifested Your name to the men whom You have given Me out of the world. They were Yours, You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word. 7 Now they have known that all things which You have given Me are from You.8 For I have given to them the words which You have given Me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came forth from You; and they have believed that You sent Me. 16 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.17 Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth. 18 As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. 19 And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by the truth. Jesus Prays for All Believers 20 “I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; 21 that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. 22 And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one: 23 I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me. 24 “Father, I desire that they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am, that they may behold My glory which You have given Me; for You loved Me before the foundation of the world. 25 O righteous Father! The world has not known You, but I have known You; and these have known that You sent Me. 26 And I have declared to them Your name, and will declare it, that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them.” Now mediate on what Jesus Prayed look at each sentence and just think about what Jesus was praying. |
