On Christ the Solid Rock I Stand!

Have you ever seen the movie Twister? There is one part at the end of the movie where they are trying to get Dorthy (a scientific instrument used to study tornadoes) inside of an F5 tornado. It was proving to be a very hard task because of the strong winds they were facing. At one point they were able to get the machine into the tornado, however; it took the truck they were riding in as well. Franticly, they had to run for their lives. They soon found out that the tornado was too fast and the winds were too strong. They ran into a building and tied themselves to some pipes that were deep in the ground. It was proving to be impossible to remain standing in these violent winds apart from anchoring to something else. I think all too often this happens to us. We live in a fast paced, technologically enhanced, dog eat dog world that feels like a tornado swirling out of control. We often find ourselves defeated, depressed, beat down or even confused. We find it is impossible to remain standing in this whirlwind alone. For much of the world they will turn to alternative things such as sex, drugs, alcohol or a number of different things in order to empower them to stand through these times. As Christians, we are not immune to these feelings either, we can also find ourselves in the middle of one of these F5 tornadoes. The problem is all too often we forget that we have the anchor to tie off to in Jesus Christ. He says, “If a man remains in Me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing”. He is saying that if we remain in Him, abiding in Him, we can do all things but apart from anchoring to Him we can do nothing at all. The tornado is just going to sweep us up and toss us around any way it wishes. We must make a conscience effort to tie off to the anchor. It’s hard to get clarity or direction while you are getting carried away by the winds. I think we all need to understand it takes effort to stand and remain, something that is impossible to do apart from abiding in Jesus. The tornados are coming, and Satan does not want you to become the masterpiece that God has created you to be (eph2:10) so you can bet he is going to send the biggest tornado he can send, but as for me, I am going to keep reminding myself ON CHRIST THE SOLID ROCK I STAND ALL OTHER GROUND IS SINKING SAND.  “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash”(Matt 7:24-27). Make sure you are anchored to the rock today.
