Romans 9-10 Psalm 137 1. Write Isaiah 45:23 from memory. 2. Read 2 Timothy 2 3.What is your God story? I know many of you have done this before, but today is a day you do it again, write out your God story. Yes, write your testimony. It may take a few days to complete it but take a few days to write it. So here is the very familiar format: (If you have already written you testimony go back and review it add scripture to it as you live the scripture has come alive in your life. Also add to the This is what I have been doing ever since )
Here is Paul’s testimony as recorded in Acts 26:1-23. This is who I was. 1Then Agrippa said to Paul, “You are permitted to speak for yourself.” So Paul stretched out his hand and answered for himself: 2 “I think myself happy, King Agrippa, because today I shall answer for myself before you concerning all the things of which I am accused by the Jews, 3 especially because you are expert in all customs and questions which have to do with the Jews. Therefore I beg you to hear me patiently. 4 “My manner of life from my youth, which was spent from the beginning among my own nation at Jerusalem, all the Jews know. 5 They knew me from the first, if they were willing to testify, that according to the strictest sect of our religion I lived a Pharisee. 6 And now I stand and am judged for the hope of the promise made by God to our fathers. 7 To this promise our twelve tribes, earnestly serving God night and day, hope to attain. For this hope’s sake, King Agrippa, I am accused by the Jews. 8 Why should it be thought incredible by you that God raises the dead? 9 “Indeed, I myself thought I must do many things contrary to the name of Jesus of Nazareth. 10 This I also did in Jerusalem, and many of the saints I shut up in prison, having received authority from the chief priests; and when they were put to death, I cast my vote against them. 11 And I punished them often in every synagogue and compelled them to blaspheme; and being exceedingly enraged against them, I persecuted them even to foreign cities. This is what Happened 12 “While thus occupied, as I journeyed to Damascus with authority and commission from the chief priests, 13 at midday, O king, along the road I saw a light from heaven, brighter than the sun, shining around me and those who journeyed with me. 14 And when we all had fallen to the ground, I heard a voice speaking to me and saying in the Hebrew language, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me? It is hard for you to kick against the goads.’ 15 So I said, ‘Who are You, Lord?’ And He said, ‘I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. 16 But rise and stand on your feet; for I have appeared to you for this purpose, to make you a minister and a witness both of the things which you have seen and of the things which I will yet reveal to you. 17 I will deliver you from the Jewish people, as well as from the Gentiles, to whom I now send you, 18 to open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.’ This Is What I Have Been Doing Ever Since 19 “Therefore, King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision, 20 but declared first to those in Damascus and in Jerusalem, and throughout all the region of Judea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent, turn to God, and do works befitting repentance. 21 For these reasons the Jews seized me in the temple and tried to kill me. 22 Therefore, having obtained help from God, to this day I stand, witnessing both to small and great, saying no other things than those which the prophets and Moses said would come— 23 that the Christ would suffer, that He would be the first to rise from the dead, and would proclaim light to the Jewish people and to the Gentiles.” Reading Plan
Romans 7-8 Psalm 136 The growth rings on a tree tell a story. When a tree is cut down the growth rings are revealed and the growth rings tell a story. You can tell if the season was a rainy or dry season, if there was a forest fire, if growth was early or late. Now I am no forester, but I am a studier of the Word of God and I believe we too have growth rings. Rings of sanctification, that reveal times of closeness with God, times when we were not so close, times we were well watered by the Word, and times we resisted with vigor. Scars that reveal storms in our life, hurt, and yes healing. Sometimes we get so caught up in the end that we lose sight of the now. We want to see the mature tree and miss the growth of each season. The journey through life is beauty of life, especially when your destination is not of this world. The Lord Jesus Christ has called each of us by name to be a part of what He is doing, not what we are doing. The Lord is not some investor looking to invest in your great idea, far from it. The Lord Jesus Christ is the owner of the greatest company in the world and He looks at you and I and asks, will you join My company? Building what I build, the way I design it, and the way I oversee it? What I say goes? Your compensation package may vary, but the retirement plan is out of this world… Your response please? 1. Write Isaiah 45:23 from memory. 2. Read 2 Timothy 2. 3. Write down your action steps to your takeaways from Sunday’s sermon. What actions do you have to put in place because of what you heard from the Lord? 2 Timothy 2 You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. 2 And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. 3 You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. 4 No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier. 5 And also if anyone competes in athletics, he is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules. 6 The hardworking farmer must be first to partake of the crops. 7 Consider what I say, and may the Lord give you understanding in all things. 8 Remember that Jesus Christ, of the seed of David, was raised from the dead according to my gospel, 9 for which I suffer trouble as an evildoer, even to the point of chains; but the word of God is not chained. 10 Therefore I endure all things for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. 4. What are the affairs of this life mentioned by Paul in this passage? 5. Who enlisted you as a soldier? This is a serious question. Was it Jesus Christ? It can be your parents, your grandmother, your best friend, it must be the Lord Jesus Christ. Explain what I mean when I saw it can’t be anyone else. 6. List and discuss the characteristic of a good soldier discussed Sunday. (might I remind you the message is on our app, website and you tube channel) 7. In verse 7 Paul says he suffered as an evil doer. How do you think or know you are going to be treated by those who don’t know Christ? Reading Plan
Romans 5-6 Psalm 135 I pray today finds you well with the intent of being a good soldier, running on the pure grace and strength of the Lord Jesus Christ. Please register for service this week as it helps Bridgette, Dallas and I prepare for the service. Thank you to the ones who call once they have registered and are not going to be there, it helps with sanctuary seating. I have prayed for you this morning. We all are faced with a decision today of what kind of soldier we will be. Some days bring bigger decisions. Sometimes in our life bring life changing decisions, that will change everything we do, where we do it, how we do it. Some days bring small decisions that seem almost routine. In all days be a good soldier, endure hard times, give every day to the Lord Jesus with a total commitment to, “yes Lord.” But if you say, “yes Lord,” then live yes Lord. One thing I have learned in walking with Jesus is you can’t do it looking backwards. So many times, God is moving us into something and we move looking backwards, if you keep doing that you will run straight into a tree, all while looking backwards. Peace is in being a good soldier for Jesus Christ. Joy is found in being a good solider for Jesus Christ. So, begin today eyes straight ahead, focused on the Lord Jesus Christ, and all He has for you today, right where you are. That is really all you can do. When you study the Bible, you find that the clarity of God cannot be understood by the lens of man. One must have spiritual eyes given by the Lord Jesus through the empowering of the Holy Spirit. Those eyes see clearly. If your spiritual eyes are clearly focused and you know what to do then get busy doing it, otherwise we all suffer. 1. Write Isaiah 45:23 from memory. 2. Read 2 Timothy 2. 3. Write down your takeaways from Sunday’s message. Please write it down and email it to me at theway.dwilson@gmail.com. 4. List characteristics of a good soldier. 5. Do you consider yourself a good soldier for Jesus Christ? Why? Why not? 6. 2 Timothy 2:6 speaks of the farmer and his hard work and being the first to take part in the harvest, what is the spiritual application of this verse in context of what we are reading? 7. After the soldier Paul turns his attention to the athlete. How must the athlete compete? Who determines the rules? How do you know the rules? The answer is found in verse 7. It is more than a short answer you can write volumes from this verse 2 Timothy 2:7. Reading Plan
