But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they went to the tomb, taking the spices they had prepared. And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they went in they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men stood by them in dazzling apparel. And as they were frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be crucified and on the third day rise.” And they remembered his words, and returning from the tomb they told all these things to the eleven and to all the rest. Now it was Mary Magdalene and Joanna and Mary the mother of James and the other women with them who told these things to the apostles, but these words seemed to them an idle tale, and they did not believe them. Luke 24:1-11 NKJV
The women gathered together to go to the tomb to prepare Jesus's body for burial. When they got there, the stone was rolled away. That's a real game changer! They go in to find that Jesus isn't there. Two angels show up and ask " Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen! REMEMBER, how he spoke to you when He was still in Galilee, saying, 'The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.' "
How often do we FORGET what Jesus tells us? I think I might try to remember Jesus telling me that He was going to raise from the dead! But not even just the resurrection, but the power of the resurrection. This same power from the resurrection dwells in us, and gives us life. See Romans 8:11. How often do we get caught up in self and forget about this power?
After the encounter with the two angels, the women turn to run and go tell the disciples. And here is their response: "And their words seemed like idle tales, and they did not believe them."
To me that verse is a punch in the gut. Not only do I not want to forget the things that Jesus told me, but I definitely don't want it to become an idle tale. Idle is also translated as nonsense. Nonsense means spoken or written words that have no meaning or make sense. We may not approach the Word or a message saying that it is nonsense, but our actions are a direct reflection of what we believe. Do you actions make the resurrection seem like nonsense, like the resurrection has no meaning? What does this look like? Worry, fear, anxiety, lack of self-control, lack of faith, and many other manifestations.
If the resurrection is power in your life, you will bear the fruit of the spirit. You will have transformation. Everyday will be fresh and anew as you walk with Christ. People will begin to recognize and come to know Jesus in you.
Today, let's remember the things He has said to us. Let us not forget the power that lives inside of us. Let us not make the resurrection out to be an idle tale. But let us MAGNIFY the Lord in all we do, pointing to the resurrection as our power and reason for living!!
I hope you have a good day, and I love you!
